My brother Rog and I had a good rehearsal today. I wasn't feeling well before he got here, but as we got underway, I started feeling better. We worked through 21 songs, most of which were originals, but we did some covers too.
Here's a list of what we went over:
Speed
Watching Her Eyes*
Standin' Alone*
Living For You*
Castaway*
It's Not Love*
Carolina Moon*
Paint Me a Birmingham
Famous Last Words*
What Might Have Been*
Seeing's Believing*
Something I Remember*
Early Train*
I See September*
Go*
If You Walk Away*
Broken Angel*
You Wreck Me
Last Day On Earth*
Dead Flowers
Your Song
Twenty one songs gone over today. That makes today the best rehearsal this year so far.
* Yale Bros originals either penned by me or Rog
An online repository of ideas and ruminations, epiphanies and hallucinations. Any similarities between persons living or dead is just plain folly.

Interview
Sean McGaughey, a wonderful Canadian songwriter and host of the For The Sake Of The Song podcast interviewed me last night for his show. We had a great conversation.
We talked about songwriting, the state of the music industry, and new media. I guess we have known each other about six months via the web, but this was the first time we actually spoke to one another ear to ear. Sean has got quite a few episodes ready to go, so it will be a little while before he posts my interview. I can't wait to hear his Trout Fishing In America episode. I have liked those guys for quite some time. Check him out. He's got a great show, and he is an excellent songwriter, and it goes without saying that he is a really nice guy.

Music Appreciation
I am listening to some songs on Songramp There is so much good music out there. There is so much bad music too, but I guess it's all a matter of opinion. I love it when I am listening to a new or unfamiliar song and get swept away with the words and music. The atmosphere and instrumentation make a huge difference to the vibe, whether it is sparse and plaintive, or fully produced. But for me the most important thing is the voice. Mind you, it doesn't have to be a perfect voice. For me it's about the character and the delivery. That special something that puts the song across. Personality. The elusive "it".
The song is the thing.
The song is the thing.
